Eremo di San Colombano

L’Eremo di San Colombano (sito nel Comune di Trambileno a pochi chilometri da Rovereto) si raggiunge percorrendo a piedi un breve sentiero ed una scalinata di 102 gradini, scavati direttamente nella roccia.

L’eremo è costruito a mezza altezza su uno strapiombo di circa 120 metri. Protetto dalle intemperie da un tetto naturale di roccia è dedicato al Santo che, secondo la leggenda, in veste di giovane cavaliere uccise il drago che provocava la morte di bambini battezzati nelle acque del sottostante torrente Leno. L’Eremo sembra essere stato abitato sin dal 753.

The Hermitage of San Colombano (located in the Municipality of Trambileno a few kilometers from Rovereto) can be reached by walking along a short path and a staircase of 102 steps, carved directly into the rock.

The Hermitage is built halfway up on an overhang of about 120 meters. Protected from the elements by a natural rock roof, it is dedicated to the Saint who, according to legend, as a young knight killed the dragon that caused the death of baptized children in the waters of the Leno stream below. The Hermitage seems to have been inhabited since 753.
